Fluorinated elastomers are synthetic tecnopolymers and the difference between FPM and FKM refers only the denomination: FPM according to DIN / ISO and FKM according to ASTM. Viton® is a registered trademark of "THE CHEMOURS COMPANY FC, LLC" in the past this was "DUPONT PERFORMANCE ELASTOMERS LLC".
Fluorinated elastomers are the absolute reference for rubber seals in terms of chemical resistance in extreme conditions. In recent years, in order to meet the increasingly demanding needs requested by the automotive and industrial sectors, these materials have also undergone developments that have moved their application limits to new levels of performance.
Fluoroelastomer (Viton® FKM, FPM) compounds are not only characterized by excellent resistance to aging and ozone, but also by a minimal gas permeability that makes them ideal for vacuum applications.
Fluoroelastomer (Viton® FKM, FPM) standard compounds have excellent resistance to mineral oils and fats, aliphatic, aromatic and chlorinated hydrocarbons, fuels, non-flammable hydraulic fluids, and organic and chemical solvents and are resistant to flame propagation . Furthermore, they have reduced resistance to hot water, steam, polar solvents, glycol-based fluid and low-molecular organic acids, ketones, aldehydes, nitrogen compounds, acids and strong bases, brake fluids and ammonia.
In addition to the standard composition, numerous Fluoroelastomer (Viton® FKM, FPM) compounds are available for special applications featuring different polymer chain combinations and a progressive fluorine content (65-71%).
